Data Rights & Privacy Specialist
We are seeking a Data Rights & Privacy Specialist to support the effective management of data protection, privacy and information rights obligations across a complex organisation. This role will provide practical advice on the lawful, fair and transparent use of personal data, helping teams to embed privacy by design and maintain high standards of governance.
You will respond to data subject rights requests, including requests for access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability. Responsibilities will include validating requests, coordinating information searches, assessing exemptions, preparing clear responses and ensuring that statutory deadlines are met. You will maintain accurate case records, monitor progress and identify recurring issues or opportunities to improve processes.
The role will also involve supporting privacy impact assessments, records of processing activities, data retention reviews, data sharing arrangements and supplier due diligence. You will assist with the investigation and management of personal data breaches, escalating risks appropriately and helping to coordinate remedial actions. You may also contribute to policy development, staff guidance, privacy notices, awareness sessions and internal reporting on compliance activity.
Applicants should have practical experience of data protection, information rights or privacy operations, together with a sound understanding of the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018 and related regulatory guidance. Experience handling data subject requests, conducting privacy assessments and advising colleagues in a proportionate, risk-based manner is desirable. A relevant professional qualification, such as CIPP/E, CIPT, BCS or an equivalent data protection qualification, would be advantageous.
You will be organised, analytical and confident managing sensitive information. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to explain complex requirements clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences. You should be comfortable working independently, prioritising competing deadlines and collaborating with stakeholders at all levels while exercising sound judgement and discretion.
