Privacy Security Engineer, Privacy & Data Protection - Applied AI
We are seeking a Privacy Security Engineer to help shape privacy and data protection practices across applied artificial intelligence products and services. This role will suit an experienced security and privacy professional who can work confidently across engineering, legal, product and research teams to develop practical, risk-based solutions for emerging technologies.
You will contribute to the design, development and review of AI systems, ensuring that privacy and security are embedded throughout the product lifecycle. Your responsibilities will include conducting privacy and security assessments, identifying data protection risks, advising on appropriate mitigations, and helping teams translate regulatory and policy requirements into clear technical controls.
You will assess data flows, processing activities, access controls, retention practices and third-party integrations. You will also support threat modelling, security and privacy reviews, incident readiness, vulnerability management and the creation of technical documentation. A key part of the role will be evaluating risks associated with machine learning and generative AI, including data provenance, model training and evaluation data, prompt and output handling, re-identification, inference attacks and unauthorised disclosure.
The successful candidate will have professional experience in privacy engineering, application security, data protection or a closely related discipline. You should understand privacy principles and relevant regulatory frameworks, alongside secure software development, identity and access management, encryption, logging and cloud security. Experience with AI or machine learning systems, privacy-enhancing technologies, risk assessment methodologies and security testing would be advantageous.
You will be comfortable explaining complex technical and regulatory matters to varied audiences, influencing decisions without relying solely on formal authority, and balancing delivery needs with responsible risk management. Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound judgement and a collaborative approach are essential. Relevant professional certifications or a degree in computer science, information security, privacy, law or a related field are desirable, though equivalent practical experience will be considered.
