Privacy Specialist
We are seeking a Privacy Specialist to support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of privacy practices across a complex organisation. This role will provide practical advice on data protection matters, helping teams to use personal information responsibly while enabling effective business and service delivery.
You will monitor compliance with applicable data protection legislation and internal policies, working closely with colleagues across legal, information security, technology, procurement, risk and operational teams. Your responsibilities will include advising on data protection impact assessments, legitimate interest assessments, data-sharing arrangements, privacy notices, retention schedules and the use of new technologies. You will also support the review and negotiation of data processing agreements and other privacy-related contractual documentation.
The role will involve maintaining accurate records of processing activities, supporting responses to data subject rights requests and assisting with the management and investigation of personal data breaches. You will contribute to privacy risk assessments, audits and assurance activities, identify areas for improvement and help ensure that remedial actions are completed effectively. A key part of the position will be promoting privacy awareness through guidance, training and clear communications tailored to different audiences.
The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of UK data protection law, including the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, with the ability to interpret requirements and apply them in a practical, proportionate manner. Experience in a privacy, data protection, information governance, compliance or related role is essential. You should be confident assessing risk, documenting decisions and explaining complex issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
We are looking for someone organised, analytical and collaborative, with strong attention to detail and the judgement to manage competing priorities. Professional privacy or data protection qualifications, such as CIPP/E, CIPM, BCS or equivalent experience, would be advantageous. The role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to responsible information management within a supportive and evolving environment.
