Information Security Consultant
We are seeking an experienced Information Security Consultant to help organisations strengthen their security posture, manage risk and respond effectively to an evolving threat landscape. This is an opportunity to work with a range of stakeholders, providing practical, proportionate and commercially aware advice across information security, governance and risk management.
You will assess existing security controls, identify vulnerabilities and recommend improvements aligned with recognised standards and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities will include conducting security risk assessments, supporting audits, developing policies and procedures, reviewing technical and organisational controls, and helping to deliver security improvement programmes. You will also contribute to incident response planning, business continuity activities, third-party risk assessments and the preparation of clear reports for both technical and senior audiences.
The successful candidate will build strong working relationships with clients, colleagues and external partners. You will be expected to explain complex security matters in an accessible way, challenge effectively where necessary and support the implementation of practical remediation plans. The role may also involve assisting with security awareness initiatives, providing mentoring and keeping up to date with emerging threats, legislation and industry best practice.
You should have proven experience in an information or cyber security consultancy, advisory or governance role, with a strong understanding of risk management, security frameworks and control assurance. Experience of standards such as ISO 27001, the NIST Cybersecurity Framework or CIS Controls would be advantageous. Knowledge of data protection legislation, cloud security, supplier assurance and secure service delivery is also desirable.
Excellent communication, analytical and organisational skills are essential, together with the ability to manage competing priorities and work independently. Relevant professional qualifications, such as CISSP, CISM, CRISC, ISO 27001 Lead Implementer or Lead Auditor, would be welcomed, although equivalent practical experience will be considered. You must demonstrate sound judgement, attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality, ethical security advice.
