Data Protection & AI Governance Consultant
We are seeking a Data Protection & AI Governance Consultant to provide expert advice on privacy, data protection and the responsible use of artificial intelligence. This is an opportunity to support the development of practical governance frameworks that enable innovation while protecting individuals, information and organisational integrity.
You will advise stakeholders on data protection requirements, including the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, privacy by design and information governance. Your responsibilities will include completing and reviewing Data Protection Impact Assessments, advising on data-sharing arrangements, supporting records of processing activities, assessing third-party risks and contributing to incident response and breach management.
A key part of the role will involve developing and embedding AI governance approaches. You will assess the privacy, ethical, legal and operational risks associated with AI systems, assist with algorithmic impact assessments, and help establish controls for transparency, explainability, human oversight, data quality and accountability. You will also monitor regulatory developments and translate emerging requirements into clear policies, procedures, guidance and training.
Working collaboratively with legal, security, technology, procurement and business teams, you will promote a consistent and proportionate approach to risk management. You will be confident presenting complex issues to both technical and non-technical audiences, challenging practices constructively and maintaining accurate governance documentation and management information.
Applicants should have substantial experience in data protection, privacy, information governance or a related discipline, together with a strong understanding of AI regulation and responsible technology principles. Experience of conducting impact assessments, managing compliance projects and advising on emerging technologies is essential. Relevant professional qualifications, such as CIPP/E, CIPM, BCS or equivalent, would be advantageous.
You will be analytical, pragmatic and highly organised, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgement, attention to detail and the ability to work independently while building effective relationships across a complex environment.
