Data Protection and Information Governance Manager
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Data Protection and Information Governance Manager to lead and develop effective data protection and information governance arrangements across a complex organisation. This role will provide expert advice, assurance and practical guidance to ensure personal and corporate information is managed lawfully, securely and transparently.
You will oversee compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation, the Data Protection Act 2018, the Freedom of Information Act and other relevant legislation, regulations and professional standards. Working closely with senior leaders, operational teams and specialist advisers, you will promote a strong culture of information responsibility and support the organisation in meeting its legal and regulatory obligations.
Key responsibilities will include maintaining and reviewing data protection and information governance policies, procedures and guidance; managing data protection impact assessments, records of processing activities, information-sharing agreements and data breach investigations; and coordinating responses to data subject rights and freedom of information requests. You will also monitor compliance, prepare reports for governance committees and provide clear recommendations on risks, controls and remedial action.
The postholder will lead audits, assurance reviews and improvement programmes, ensuring that lessons learned are embedded and that information assets are appropriately identified, classified, retained and disposed of. You will develop and deliver engaging training and awareness activities for colleagues at all levels, translating complex legislative requirements into practical advice.
We are looking for an experienced data protection or information governance professional with thorough knowledge of UK privacy legislation and current best practice. You will have a proven ability to manage competing priorities, investigate sensitive issues and communicate confidently with both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience of advising on information risk, cybersecurity, records management and data sharing would be highly desirable.
With excellent analytical, organisational and interpersonal skills, you will be comfortable working independently while building effective relationships across multiple teams. In return, you will have the opportunity to shape a mature information governance framework, influence organisational practice and make a meaningful contribution to the secure and responsible use of information.
