Data Protection Governance Specialist
We are seeking a Data Protection Governance Specialist to support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of data protection frameworks across a complex organisation. In this role, you will help ensure that personal data is handled lawfully, securely and transparently, while promoting a strong culture of privacy and accountability. You will work closely with legal, information security, technology, risk, compliance and operational teams to translate regulatory requirements into practical policies, controls and processes.
Your responsibilities will include maintaining data protection policies, standards, procedures and guidance; coordinating records of processing activities; supporting data protection impact assessments and legitimate interest assessments; and monitoring compliance with applicable privacy legislation and internal requirements. You will assist with the management of data subject rights requests, personal data breaches, third-party due diligence and data protection queries. The role will also involve preparing governance reports, tracking remediation actions, supporting audits and assurance reviews, and identifying opportunities to strengthen controls and improve operational effectiveness. You may contribute to privacy training and awareness programmes, helping colleagues understand their responsibilities when collecting, using, sharing or retaining personal information.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in data protection, privacy governance, compliance or a closely related discipline, ideally within a regulated or complex environment. You should have a sound understanding of data protection principles, privacy risk management and relevant legislation, together with the ability to interpret requirements and communicate them clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Strong organisational, analytical and stakeholder-management skills are essential, as is the ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently and exercise sound judgement when handling sensitive information. Professional qualifications or recognised certifications in data protection, privacy, information governance or risk management would be advantageous. This is an opportunity to contribute to a mature and continually evolving privacy programme while helping embed responsible data practices throughout the organisation.
