Microsoft Data Protection and Secure Collaboration Consultant
We are seeking a Data Protection and Secure Collaboration Consultant to help organisations protect sensitive information while enabling effective, modern ways of working. You will provide expert guidance on data protection, information governance and secure collaboration, working with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into practical, sustainable solutions. The role will involve advising on the secure use of cloud-based productivity and collaboration platforms, including information classification, retention, access controls, data loss prevention and records management.
Key responsibilities will include assessing current processes and security controls, identifying risks and recommending improvements that align with regulatory, legal and business requirements. You will design and implement policies, standards and technical controls covering data discovery, labelling, encryption, sharing, monitoring and lifecycle management. You will also support the development of secure collaboration patterns, contribute to risk assessments and impact assessments, and provide guidance on data handling across internal teams, suppliers and third parties. The role will require close collaboration with cyber security, architecture, compliance, legal, service management and business stakeholders, as well as the preparation of clear documentation, reports and presentations for technical and senior audiences.
Applicants should have proven experience in data protection, information governance, cyber security or secure collaboration consultancy, with a strong understanding of data protection principles and relevant UK and European legislation. Practical experience of implementing or advising on cloud security controls, identity and access management, data loss prevention, information protection and retention is highly desirable. You should be confident engaging with stakeholders at all levels, managing competing priorities and explaining complex technical or regulatory issues in clear, accessible language. Relevant professional qualifications or certifications in data protection, information security, cloud technologies or governance would be advantageous. A proactive, analytical approach and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential.
