Data Protection Advisor
We are seeking an experienced Data Protection Advisor to provide practical guidance on privacy, information governance and data protection compliance across a complex organisation. The successful candidate will support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of data protection policies, procedures and controls, helping teams handle personal information lawfully, securely and transparently. You will act as a trusted adviser to stakeholders at all levels, translating regulatory requirements into clear, proportionate and workable business practices.
Key responsibilities will include advising on data protection impact assessments, records of processing activities, data sharing arrangements, retention schedules, privacy notices and individual rights requests. You will support the assessment and management of personal data breaches, coordinate responses to data subject requests, and assist with enquiries from regulators or other external bodies. The role will also involve reviewing contracts and supplier arrangements, providing input on new systems and projects, and identifying privacy risks associated with technology, information sharing and operational change. You will help maintain accurate compliance records, monitor emerging legislation and guidance, and contribute to regular reporting on data protection risks and performance.
Applicants should have strong knowledge of applicable data protection legislation and information governance principles, together with experience advising on privacy matters in a professional environment. Relevant qualifications or professional training in data protection, information governance, law, compliance or a related discipline are desirable. You will need excellent written and verbal communication skills, sound judgement and the ability to explain complex requirements clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the confidence to manage competing priorities are essential. Experience delivering staff awareness activities, conducting audits or supporting compliance improvement programmes would be advantageous. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to responsible information handling while helping embed a positive culture of privacy and accountability.
