Cyber Essentials Assessor
We are seeking a Cyber Essentials Assessor to support organisations in achieving and maintaining compliance with the Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus schemes. This role will involve assessing technical environments, reviewing security controls and providing clear, practical guidance to help clients improve their cyber resilience.
You will conduct assessments against the relevant scheme requirements, including secure configuration, user access control, malware protection, software updates and firewalls. Responsibilities will include reviewing questionnaires and supporting evidence, conducting technical verification activities, identifying gaps and documenting findings in accurate, professional reports. You will explain technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and provide proportionate recommendations for remediation.
The successful candidate will manage several assessments simultaneously, maintaining accurate records and ensuring work is completed to agreed standards and timescales. You will liaise with clients throughout the assessment process, respond to queries, contribute to quality assurance reviews and remain up to date with changes to Cyber Essentials requirements, common vulnerabilities and current cyber security threats. The role may also involve supporting internal processes, improving assessment methodologies and contributing to guidance and knowledge-sharing activities.
Applicants should have practical experience in cyber security, IT auditing, information assurance or a related technical discipline, together with a sound understanding of network security, operating systems, cloud services and common security controls. Experience of Cyber Essentials assessments, vulnerability management or technical compliance work would be highly advantageous. Relevant certifications or professional development in cyber security are desirable.
You will need strong analytical and report-writing skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to assess evidence objectively. Effective communication, client management and organisational skills are essential, as is the confidence to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team. A commitment to confidentiality, professional integrity and continual learning is expected. The role may require occasional travel to client sites and flexibility to support assessment activity remotely.
