Cryptographic HSM and Key Management Engineer
We are seeking a Cryptographic HSM and Key Management Engineer to design, implement and support secure cryptographic services across a complex technology environment. You will play a key role in protecting sensitive information, maintaining trust services and ensuring that cryptographic controls meet rigorous security, availability and compliance requirements.
Your responsibilities will include deploying, configuring and administering Hardware Security Modules (HSMs), key management platforms and associated certificate services. You will manage the full lifecycle of cryptographic keys, including generation, storage, distribution, rotation, revocation, archival and secure destruction. You will also support certificate authorities, digital certificates, encryption services and integration with applications, databases, cloud platforms and identity technologies.
Working closely with security, infrastructure, development and risk teams, you will define cryptographic standards, develop secure operating procedures and contribute to architecture and design decisions. You will investigate incidents, troubleshoot service issues, monitor platform performance and maintain accurate technical documentation. The role will also involve supporting audits, compliance assessments, disaster recovery exercises and continuous improvements to resilience and operational security.
The successful candidate will have practical experience administering enterprise HSMs and key management systems, ideally in high-availability or highly regulated environments. You should understand symmetric and asymmetric cryptography, public key infrastructure, certificate lifecycle management, secure key ceremonies and cryptographic protocols. Experience with platforms such as Thales, Entrust, Utimaco or comparable technologies would be advantageous, together with knowledge of cloud-based key management and encryption services.
You will be comfortable working with Linux and Windows environments, networking concepts, automation and scripting technologies such as PowerShell or Python. Familiarity with security frameworks, operational controls and standards including ISO 27001, PCI DSS, NIST or FIPS would be beneficial. Relevant professional certifications in information security, cloud technologies or cryptography are desirable.
Strong analytical, communication and documentation skills are essential. You will be expected to manage priorities effectively, explain complex technical issues to varied audiences and contribute positively within a collaborative engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to make a direct contribution to the security, reliability and continual development of critical cryptographic services.
