Senior Manager, Data Privacy - 2LoD, Compliance (Newcastle)

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Data Privacy to join a second-line-of-defence Compliance function in Newcastle. This is a senior advisory and oversight role responsible for helping the organisation manage data privacy risk, maintain regulatory compliance and promote strong data protection practices across the business. You will provide constructive challenge to first-line teams, support the development of an effective privacy framework and ensure that data protection considerations are embedded into strategic, operational and change initiatives.

Your responsibilities will include advising senior stakeholders on UK and international data protection requirements, including the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, ePrivacy legislation and relevant regulatory guidance. You will oversee privacy risk assessments, data protection impact assessments, records of processing, legitimate interest assessments, data-sharing arrangements and third-party privacy reviews. You will monitor the effectiveness of privacy controls, review incidents and breaches, track remediation activity and provide clear reporting to governance forums and senior management. The role will also involve supporting regulatory interactions, contributing to policy and standard updates, delivering privacy training and awareness, and keeping abreast of emerging legislation, enforcement trends and industry practice.

The successful candidate will have significant experience in data privacy, compliance, risk or a closely related discipline, ideally gained within a highly regulated or complex organisation. You will have strong knowledge of UK data protection law and practical experience translating regulatory requirements into proportionate business controls. Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder-management skills are essential, together with the confidence to provide challenge at senior level and the judgement to balance customer, commercial and regulatory considerations. Experience operating in a 2LoD environment, managing privacy programmes or advising on technology, outsourcing and data transformation projects would be advantageous. A relevant professional qualification, such as CIPP/E, CIPM, BCS Data Protection or equivalent experience, is desirable.
