Principal Security Architect - IAM
We are seeking a Principal Security Architect – IAM to define and lead the strategic direction of identity and access management across a complex technology environment. This role will establish secure, scalable, and business-aligned identity architecture covering workforce, customer, privileged, machine, and application identities. You will act as a senior technical authority, translating security and business requirements into practical architecture standards, roadmaps, and delivery priorities.
Key responsibilities include designing and governing IAM capabilities such as single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, identity governance, privileged access management, role-based and attribute-based access control, directory services, federation, and lifecycle automation. You will assess current-state environments, identify risks and improvement opportunities, and produce target-state architectures, technical principles, patterns, and reference designs. The role will provide architectural oversight for major programmes, support technology selection and vendor evaluation, and ensure solutions align with security policies, regulatory obligations, Zero Trust principles, and enterprise architecture standards. You will also mentor architects and engineers, influence senior stakeholders, and communicate complex security concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Applicants should bring extensive experience in IAM and security architecture within large, distributed, or highly regulated environments. Strong knowledge of identity protocols and technologies, including SAML, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SCIM, Active Directory or equivalent directory platforms, and modern cloud identity services, is essential. Experience with privileged access, identity governance, access reviews, secrets management, automation, and security monitoring is highly desirable. You should be confident developing architecture documentation, threat models, and risk assessments, while balancing usability, resilience, cost, and security. Relevant professional certifications in security, architecture, or identity management are advantageous. Excellent stakeholder management, strategic thinking, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills are required.
