We are seeking an experienced Application Security Specialist to join a security-focused technology team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is an opportunity to help strengthen the security of applications and services across the organisation, working closely with software engineers, architects, delivery teams and risk stakeholders.

You will support the integration of security throughout the software development lifecycle, from design and development through to release and ongoing maintenance. Your responsibilities will include conducting application security assessments, reviewing source code and architecture, identifying vulnerabilities, and providing practical recommendations to reduce risk. You will also help define and improve secure development standards, patterns and processes.

The role will involve managing findings from security testing, supporting remediation activity and tracking issues through to completion. You will contribute to threat modelling, security reviews and risk assessments, as well as assisting with the use and improvement of automated security tooling, including static and dynamic application security testing solutions and software composition analysis tools.

You will be expected to communicate technical risks clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, promote security awareness and provide guidance that enables teams to deliver secure, high-quality software. You may also contribute to security policies, metrics, reporting and continuous improvement initiatives.

Applicants should have demonstrable experience in application security, secure software development or a closely related discipline. You will need a sound understanding of common application vulnerabilities and attack techniques, including those outlined by the OWASP Top 10, together with practical knowledge of web technologies, APIs, authentication, authorisation and cloud environments. Experience with security testing tools, threat modelling methodologies and modern development practices such as Agile and DevSecOps is highly desirable.

Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills are essential. Relevant professional qualifications or certifications, such as CREST, GIAC, CISSP or equivalent experience, would be advantageous. You will be collaborative, pragmatic and able to manage competing priorities while maintaining a clear focus on reducing security risk.
