Staff / Principal Security Engineer, AI Safety and Security
We are seeking a Staff or Principal Security Engineer specialising in AI safety and security to help shape the secure development, deployment and operation of advanced artificial intelligence systems. You will work at the intersection of cybersecurity, machine learning and risk management, identifying emerging threats and developing practical safeguards that support responsible innovation. This is a highly collaborative role, partnering with researchers, software engineers, infrastructure teams, product specialists and senior stakeholders to establish security principles across the AI lifecycle.
Your responsibilities will include assessing threats to models, training pipelines, data, agents, applications and supporting infrastructure; designing controls to reduce risks such as prompt injection, data poisoning, model theft, abuse, supply-chain compromise and unauthorised access; and developing security requirements, architecture patterns and technical standards. You will lead or contribute to red-team exercises, adversarial testing, incident response planning, vulnerability assessments and security reviews. You will also help define monitoring and evaluation approaches for AI safety, communicate complex risks clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, and influence decisions through well-reasoned analysis and concise written guidance.
You will bring substantial experience in security engineering, application security, cloud security, infrastructure security, threat modelling or a closely related discipline, together with a strong understanding of machine learning systems and their operational risks. Experience securing AI or data-intensive platforms, conducting adversarial research, building detection and response capabilities, or translating security research into production controls would be highly valued. You should be comfortable working independently on ambiguous, high-impact problems, while also mentoring engineers and raising security maturity across teams. Excellent judgement, clear communication and a pragmatic approach to balancing safety, usability and delivery are essential. Experience appropriate to Staff or Principal level is expected, including a record of leading complex technical initiatives and influencing strategy beyond your immediate team.
