Staff Security Engineer - Security Operations
We are seeking a Staff Security Engineer – Security Operations to provide technical leadership across the detection, response, and continuous improvement of a modern security operations function. This role will help protect critical systems, applications, and data by developing scalable security capabilities and strengthening the organisation’s ability to identify, investigate, and contain threats. You will partner with engineering, infrastructure, application, and risk teams to embed effective security practices throughout the technology environment.
Responsibilities include designing and improving security monitoring, detection, and response processes; leading investigations into complex and high-impact incidents; developing advanced detections, automation, and response playbooks; and tuning security tooling to improve signal quality and operational efficiency. You will analyse threat intelligence, conduct proactive threat hunting, identify control gaps, and recommend practical improvements. The role will also contribute to incident readiness exercises, security metrics and reporting, vulnerability remediation coordination, and the definition of standards for logging, alerting, and operational resilience. As a senior technical contributor, you will mentor engineers, influence security strategy, and communicate risk and technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Applicants should have substantial experience in security operations, incident response, detection engineering, or a closely related discipline, along with a strong understanding of cloud, network, endpoint, identity, and application security. Practical experience with SIEM, EDR, SOAR, vulnerability management, and threat intelligence platforms is expected. You should be comfortable writing queries and automation scripts using tools such as Python, PowerShell, or similar technologies, and have a solid understanding of common attack techniques and frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK. Experience leading complex investigations, improving operational processes, and working across distributed engineering teams is highly valued. Relevant professional certifications are welcome, but demonstrated expertise, sound judgement, and a collaborative approach are equally important.
