2nd/3rd line Cyber Defence Engineer
We are seeking a skilled 2nd/3rd Line Cyber Defence Engineer to strengthen and enhance operational cyber security capabilities. This role is suited to an experienced security professional who can investigate complex incidents, improve defensive controls and provide expert technical support across enterprise environments. You will work as part of a collaborative cyber defence function, helping to protect systems, networks, applications and data against evolving threats.
Key responsibilities will include monitoring and analysing security alerts, investigating suspected compromises and leading the containment, eradication and recovery of cyber incidents. You will troubleshoot and resolve escalated security issues, perform detailed log and event analysis, and support the tuning and administration of security technologies such as SIEM, EDR, firewalls, vulnerability management platforms and identity protection tools. The role will also involve developing detection rules, playbooks and technical procedures; carrying out threat hunting and root-cause analysis; and contributing to vulnerability assessments, penetration-testing remediation and security improvement initiatives. You will maintain accurate incident records, produce clear technical reports and provide guidance to colleagues across infrastructure, service delivery and application teams.
Applicants should have proven experience in a 2nd or 3rd line cyber security, security operations or incident response role, with a strong understanding of security monitoring, network defence, endpoint protection, vulnerability management and digital forensics. Practical knowledge of SIEM and EDR solutions, Windows and Linux environments, networking principles, cloud security and common attack techniques is expected. Relevant professional certifications or demonstrable equivalent experience would be advantageous. You will need strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to prioritise effectively during high-pressure incidents. A proactive approach, commitment to continuous learning and willingness to participate in an incident response or on-call rota are also important.
