1st Line Security Controls Testing Manager

We are seeking a 1st Line Security Controls Testing Manager to lead the effective delivery of first-line security control testing across a complex and evolving environment. You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a robust testing approach that provides clear assurance over the design, implementation and operating effectiveness of key information and cyber security controls. Working closely with control owners, risk teams, internal audit and technology stakeholders, you will help identify weaknesses, assess risk exposure and drive timely remediation.

Your responsibilities will include developing risk-based testing plans; prioritising activities in line with regulatory, business and threat requirements; overseeing control walkthroughs and evidence reviews; and ensuring testing is completed to agreed quality and delivery standards. You will review findings, challenge control owners where necessary, agree practical corrective actions and monitor remediation through to completion. The role will also involve producing accurate management information, reporting themes and emerging risks to senior stakeholders, maintaining testing methodologies and procedures, and supporting the continuous improvement of the wider security controls framework. You will promote consistent documentation, effective challenge and a strong culture of control ownership.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience in information security, technology risk, operational resilience, internal controls, audit or a related discipline, together with proven experience managing or delivering security controls testing. You will possess a sound understanding of security frameworks, risk assessment principles, control design and assurance practices, with the ability to interpret technical information and translate it into clear business-focused conclusions. Strong stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills are essential, as is the confidence to challenge constructively at all levels. Experience working within regulated or highly controlled environments, alongside relevant professional qualifications such as CISA, CISSP, CRISC or equivalent, would be advantageous. You should be organised, analytical and delivery-focused, with a commitment to maintaining high standards of integrity, objectivity and attention to detail.
