Data Protection Manager
We are seeking an experienced Data Protection Manager to lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of data protection practices across a complex organisation. This is an opportunity to provide expert advice on privacy and information governance while supporting colleagues to handle personal data lawfully, securely and responsibly.
You will monitor compliance with UK data protection legislation, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018, as well as relevant regulatory guidance. Your responsibilities will include maintaining data protection policies, procedures and records; advising on data protection impact assessments; reviewing data-sharing arrangements and contracts; and supporting the management of individual rights requests, personal data breaches and complaints.
The role will involve maintaining records of processing activities, coordinating audit and assurance programmes, and identifying opportunities to strengthen controls and reduce privacy risk. You will work closely with information security, legal, technology, procurement and operational teams, providing clear, practical guidance on new projects, systems and services. You will also help deliver engaging training and awareness activities, ensuring that data protection responsibilities are understood throughout the organisation.
Applicants should have substantial experience in a data protection, privacy or information governance role, with a strong working knowledge of UK GDPR requirements and related legislation. A relevant professional qualification, such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or membership of an appropriate professional body, would be advantageous. You will need excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills, sound judgement, and the confidence to influence stakeholders at all levels.
We are looking for someone who is organised, proactive and able to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality. Experience of handling complex data protection issues, conducting risk assessments and interpreting regulatory requirements in a practical business context is essential. In return, you will have the opportunity to shape privacy standards, support meaningful organisational change and contribute to a culture of responsible information management.
