Data Protection Manager
We are seeking an experienced Data Protection Manager to lead and strengthen the organisation’s data protection and privacy framework. You will provide expert advice on the lawful, fair and transparent use of personal data, helping teams understand their responsibilities and embed privacy by design across products, services and business operations. This role will work closely with senior stakeholders, legal, information security, technology, risk and compliance teams to promote a consistent and practical approach to data protection.
Key responsibilities will include maintaining data protection policies, procedures, standards and guidance; monitoring compliance with applicable privacy legislation and regulatory expectations; advising on data protection impact assessments, legitimate interest assessments, data-sharing arrangements, international transfers and processor contracts; and maintaining accurate records of processing activities. You will coordinate responses to individual rights requests, privacy queries and personal data breaches, ensuring that matters are assessed, documented and escalated appropriately. The role will also oversee the delivery of staff training and awareness programmes, support internal audits and assurance activity, track remediation plans, and prepare clear reports and recommendations for senior management and relevant governance forums.
Applicants should have substantial experience in a data protection, privacy, information governance or compliance role, with a strong working knowledge of the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018 and related guidance. A relevant professional qualification, such as CIPP/E, CIPM, BCS Data Protection Practitioner or equivalent, would be advantageous. You will be confident interpreting complex requirements, assessing risk and translating legal and regulatory principles into practical advice. Excellent communication, influencing and organisational skills are essential, along with the ability to manage competing priorities, work independently and build effective relationships at all levels. Experience handling data breaches, conducting impact assessments and operating within a regulated or multi-functional environment would be highly beneficial.
