Security Design Consultant
We are seeking a Security Design Consultant to develop robust, practical and proportionate security solutions across a range of projects. You will work with clients, design teams, contractors and internal stakeholders to understand requirements, assess risks and translate them into clear security strategies and design proposals.
Your responsibilities will include producing security concepts, specifications, technical reports, risk assessments and design documentation. You will advise on protective security measures including access control, CCTV, intruder detection, intercoms, perimeter protection, security operations and integrated systems. You will contribute to projects from initial feasibility and concept design through to detailed design, procurement, installation and handover, ensuring that recommendations are technically sound, compliant and aligned with operational needs.
You will lead or support client workshops, site surveys and design reviews, identifying vulnerabilities and providing practical mitigation options. The role will involve coordinating with architects, engineers and specialist suppliers, reviewing technical submissions, monitoring quality and supporting the resolution of design and delivery issues. You may also be required to prepare fee proposals, manage smaller commissions and provide guidance to less experienced colleagues.
Applicants should have proven experience in security consultancy, security systems design, physical security or a closely related discipline. A strong understanding of relevant standards, legislation, industry guidance and design principles is essential, together with experience of developing technical documentation and presenting recommendations to clients. Professional qualifications or membership of a relevant security, engineering or built-environment body would be advantageous.
You will need excellent analytical, communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work confidently with both technical and non-technical audiences. A methodical approach, commercial awareness and a commitment to delivering high-quality work are important. The ability to travel to project sites and client meetings may be required, alongside a willingness to maintain current knowledge of emerging technologies, threats and best practice.
