Cybersecurity Engineer (Research Infrastructure)
An exciting opportunity is available for a Cybersecurity Engineer (Research Infrastructure) to help protect complex, high-value computing and data environments. You will work alongside infrastructure, research, software and information security specialists to ensure that systems supporting critical research are secure, resilient and compliant with relevant policies and regulatory obligations.
Your responsibilities will include designing, implementing and maintaining security controls across on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure, networks, endpoints and research platforms. You will identify vulnerabilities, assess risks and coordinate remediation activity, while supporting secure configuration, patch management, identity and access management, encryption and network segmentation. You will also contribute to security architecture reviews and advise technical teams on secure solutions throughout the development and operational lifecycle.
The role will involve monitoring and investigating security events, supporting incident response and helping to improve detection and recovery capabilities. You will maintain accurate technical documentation, risk registers and security assessments, and may contribute to audits, penetration testing, threat modelling and business continuity exercises. You will be expected to promote secure working practices and explain technical risks clearly to colleagues with varied levels of cybersecurity experience.
You should have professional experience in cybersecurity engineering, infrastructure security or a closely related field, with a sound understanding of networks, operating systems, cloud technologies and security tooling. Experience with vulnerability management, security monitoring, incident handling, scripting or automation would be highly valuable. Familiarity with recognised security frameworks and standards, such as NIST, ISO 27001 or CIS Controls, is desirable.
We are looking for a collaborative and methodical professional who can manage competing priorities, investigate problems effectively and make well-reasoned decisions. You should be comfortable working independently while contributing positively to multidisciplinary teams. Relevant industry certifications or equivalent practical experience are welcomed, alongside a commitment to continual learning and the responsible protection of sensitive research data and infrastructure.
