Software Engineer - Cyber & Autonomous Systems Team
We are seeking a Software Engineer to join a specialist Cyber & Autonomous Systems Team developing secure, resilient and intelligent technologies for complex operational environments. You will contribute to the full software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and system design through to implementation, integration, testing, deployment and ongoing improvement. Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will help deliver robust software for autonomous platforms, cyber capabilities, sensing systems and mission-critical applications.
Your responsibilities will include designing and developing high-quality software using modern programming languages and engineering practices; integrating software with hardware, networks, sensors and external systems; writing automated tests and supporting verification and validation activities; investigating technical issues and improving system performance, reliability and security; and producing clear technical documentation. You will collaborate with systems, electronics, controls, data and security engineers, while contributing to peer reviews, technical planning, risk management and the continuous improvement of development processes. You may also support the evaluation of emerging technologies, prototypes and research concepts, helping transition innovative ideas into dependable operational solutions.
Applicants should have professional experience in software engineering and a strong understanding of software design principles, object-oriented development, testing and version control. Experience with languages such as C++, C, Python, Java or Rust, together with familiarity with Linux, embedded systems, distributed architectures, robotics, artificial intelligence or cyber security, would be advantageous. Knowledge of secure development, real-time systems, networking, containerisation or DevSecOps practices is also desirable. You should be comfortable working across the complete development lifecycle, solving complex problems and communicating technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. A relevant degree or equivalent practical experience is expected. Due to the nature of the work, applicants may need to satisfy applicable background screening or security clearance requirements.
