Contract - Cyber Security Engineer (Threat Modelling)
We are seeking an experienced Contract Cyber Security Engineer specialising in Threat Modelling to support the identification, assessment and mitigation of security risks across complex technology environments. Working closely with software engineers, architects, product teams and security stakeholders, you will help embed secure-by-design principles throughout the development and delivery lifecycle. This is an opportunity to contribute to high-impact initiatives in a fast-paced environment where practical risk management and clear communication are essential.
Your responsibilities will include facilitating threat-modelling workshops, reviewing system architectures, applications, APIs, infrastructure and data flows, and identifying potential attack paths, vulnerabilities and abuse cases. You will document findings using recognised methodologies and tools, recommend proportionate security controls, and work with delivery teams to track remediation through to completion. You will also support security design reviews, provide expert guidance on secure development practices, contribute to risk assessments and assurance activities, and help maintain threat-model documentation, standards and processes. The role may also involve analysing emerging threats, supporting security testing activities and presenting technical risks to both engineering teams and senior stakeholders.
Applicants should have substantial experience in cyber security engineering, application security, security architecture or a closely related discipline, with demonstrable expertise in threat modelling. You will be confident applying approaches such as STRIDE, attack trees, kill chain analysis or equivalent techniques, and familiar with common web, cloud, infrastructure and identity-related threats. Experience with cloud platforms, modern software development practices, DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines and technologies such as containers or microservices would be advantageous. Strong analytical, documentation and stakeholder-management skills are essential, along with the ability to explain complex security issues clearly and recommend pragmatic solutions. Relevant professional certifications or formal training in cyber security are desirable. This contract engagement requires a proactive, collaborative professional who can work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes to agreed deadlines.
