NCSC Cyber Advisor (Cyber Essentials)
We are seeking an experienced NCSC Cyber Advisor (Cyber Essentials) to help organisations strengthen their cyber security and achieve practical, proportionate improvements. You will work with a varied range of clients to understand their technology, business operations and risk profile, then provide clear guidance aligned with the Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus requirements. This is a client-facing role requiring sound technical knowledge, excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex security issues into straightforward, actionable recommendations.
Your responsibilities will include planning and delivering Cyber Essentials engagements, conducting technical reviews and assessments, gathering evidence, identifying vulnerabilities and documenting findings to a consistently high standard. You will advise on areas including firewalls, secure configuration, access control, malware protection, software updates, cloud services, remote working and device management. You will support clients through remediation activity, explain the implications of identified risks and help them develop sustainable security practices. The role may also involve contributing to Cyber Essentials Plus testing, preparing reports, maintaining accurate records and keeping up to date with changes to national cyber security guidance, standards and threat trends.
You should have practical experience in cyber security, IT infrastructure, systems administration, consultancy or a closely related discipline, with a strong understanding of the Cyber Essentials technical requirements. Experience conducting assessments or audits and working with small and medium-sized organisations would be beneficial. Relevant qualifications or certifications in cyber security, networking, cloud technologies, risk management or auditing are desirable, as is familiarity with Microsoft 365, endpoint security, identity management and common network controls. You will need to be organised, analytical and confident working independently while managing multiple assignments and deadlines. A professional, approachable manner, strong written and verbal communication skills and a commitment to protecting sensitive client information are essential. Travel to client sites may be required, alongside occasional remote or out-of-hours work.
