Data Protection Officer
We are seeking an experienced Data Protection Officer to lead and coordinate data protection, privacy, and information governance activities across the organisation. The successful candidate will provide independent advice on compliance with applicable data protection legislation, regulatory guidance, and internal policies, while promoting a strong culture of privacy and responsible information handling. This role will involve working with colleagues at all levels, advising on the lawful use of personal data and supporting the organisation in meeting its accountability obligations.
Key responsibilities will include monitoring compliance with data protection requirements; reviewing and updating privacy policies, procedures, and records of processing activities; advising on data protection impact assessments, legitimate interest assessments, and international data transfers; and supporting the management of individual rights requests, complaints, and personal data breaches. You will also oversee privacy training and awareness programmes, maintain appropriate reporting and documentation, and provide guidance on contracts, supplier due diligence, new technologies, and projects involving personal information. Where required, you will liaise with supervisory authorities and act as a clear point of contact for privacy-related enquiries.
You will have substantial experience in a data protection, privacy, compliance, or information governance role, with a strong understanding of relevant legislation and regulatory expectations. A recognised privacy or data protection qualification, such as CIPP, CIPM, or an equivalent professional credential, would be desirable. You should be confident interpreting complex requirements, assessing risk, and translating technical or legal concepts into practical advice for varied audiences. Excellent communication, organisation, attention to detail, and stakeholder-management skills are essential, together with the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement, and maintain confidentiality. Experience of conducting audits, managing incidents, delivering training, and working with technology or security teams will be advantageous.
