Data Protection Officer (DPO)
We are seeking an experienced Data Protection Officer (DPO) to lead and develop a robust data protection and privacy framework across the organisation. The successful candidate will act as an independent adviser on data protection matters, promoting a strong culture of privacy, accountability and responsible information management. You will monitor compliance with applicable data protection legislation, regulatory guidance and internal policies, while keeping senior stakeholders informed of emerging risks and required actions.
Key responsibilities will include maintaining and reviewing privacy policies, procedures, records of processing activities and data retention schedules; advising on data protection impact assessments, legitimate interest assessments and privacy-by-design requirements; and supporting the management of data subject rights requests, personal data breaches and regulatory correspondence. You will provide guidance on data sharing arrangements, international transfers, contracts and supplier due diligence, working closely with legal, information security, technology, compliance and operational teams. The role will also involve delivering training and awareness programmes, conducting audits and compliance reviews, tracking remediation activity, and preparing clear reports and recommendations for relevant governance forums.
Applicants should have substantial experience in a data protection, privacy, compliance or information governance role, with strong knowledge of applicable data protection laws and regulatory principles. A recognised privacy or data protection qualification is desirable, alongside experience operating as a DPO or supporting a DPO function. You will need excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively and translate complex legal or technical requirements into practical advice. Strong organisational skills, sound judgement, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities are essential. Experience with data mapping, breach response, privacy risk management and employee awareness initiatives would be advantageous.
