Howden UK Broking Head of Data Protection
We are seeking an experienced Head of Data Protection to lead and develop data protection governance across a UK broking environment. This is a senior position responsible for ensuring that personal data is managed lawfully, securely and transparently, while supporting business growth and maintaining strong relationships with clients, colleagues, regulators and third-party partners. You will act as the primary subject matter expert for UK data protection matters and provide practical, commercially focused advice across broking, operations, technology, marketing, human resources and corporate functions.
Key responsibilities will include maintaining and continuously improving the data protection framework, policies, standards and procedures; monitoring compliance with the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations and other relevant requirements; and advising on data processing activities, contracts, international transfers, data sharing, retention, direct marketing and privacy notices. You will oversee data protection impact assessments, records of processing activities, data subject rights requests, breach management and regulatory reporting. The role will also involve delivering training and awareness programmes, preparing management information, conducting audits and risk assessments, and tracking remediation activity. You will work closely with information security, risk, legal and compliance teams to strengthen controls and promote a culture of responsible data use.
The successful candidate will have substantial experience in a data protection leadership or senior advisory role, ideally within financial services, insurance, broking or another complex, regulated organisation. You will possess detailed knowledge of UK privacy legislation and be confident interpreting regulatory guidance and translating it into clear, actionable recommendations. Strong stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills are essential, together with the ability to manage competing priorities, challenge constructively and operate effectively at senior level. A recognised data protection or privacy qualification, such as CIPP/E, CIPM, BCS or an equivalent professional credential, would be advantageous. This role offers the opportunity to shape data protection strategy and make a visible contribution to sound governance, operational resilience and trusted client relationships.
