Data Protection Officer
We are seeking an experienced Data Protection Officer to lead and oversee data protection, privacy, and information governance activities across the organisation. You will provide authoritative advice on data protection legislation, regulatory guidance, and best practice, helping colleagues understand their responsibilities and embed privacy by design into services, systems, and processes. The role will act as an independent source of advice and assurance, promoting a strong culture of compliance while supporting effective and proportionate use of information.
Key responsibilities will include monitoring compliance with applicable data protection laws and internal policies; maintaining and reviewing records of processing activities; advising on data protection impact assessments, data sharing arrangements, retention schedules, and international transfers; and supporting the management of individual rights requests, personal data breaches, complaints, and investigations. You will develop and deliver awareness training, prepare reports and recommendations for senior stakeholders, maintain relevant documentation and policies, and coordinate responses to audits or enquiries from supervisory authorities. You will also work closely with information security, legal, risk, procurement, technology, and operational teams to identify risks and implement practical controls.
The successful candidate will have substantial experience in a data protection, privacy, compliance, or information governance role, with a strong understanding of relevant legislation and regulatory expectations. A recognised professional qualification or membership of an appropriate privacy or information governance body would be advantageous. You will be confident interpreting complex requirements, assessing risk, and communicating clear, pragmatic advice to audiences at all levels. Strong organisational, analytical, and report-writing skills are essential, along with the ability to manage competing priorities, maintain confidentiality, and work effectively with limited supervision. Experience in developing policies, conducting training, and handling data breaches or rights requests is desirable.
