We are seeking a Privacy Engineer to help design, implement and maintain technical solutions that protect personal data across products, platforms and internal systems. This role will work closely with software engineering, security, legal, compliance, data and product teams to embed privacy into the full technology lifecycle.
You will translate privacy principles and regulatory requirements into practical engineering controls, supporting privacy by design and by default. Responsibilities will include assessing data flows, identifying privacy risks, contributing to data protection impact assessments, and recommending effective mitigations. You will also help develop solutions for data minimisation, retention and deletion, consent management, access controls, anonymisation, pseudonymisation and individual data rights.
The successful candidate will support the creation of technical standards, design patterns and reusable tooling that enable teams to handle personal information responsibly. You will review system and application designs, contribute to threat modelling and security assessments, and help monitor compliance through testing, audits, documentation and appropriate metrics. The role may also involve investigating privacy incidents, supporting remediation activities and promoting practical privacy awareness across engineering teams.
You should have experience in a privacy engineering, security engineering, software engineering, data governance or closely related role. A strong understanding of data protection concepts and relevant legislation, such as the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, is required. You should be comfortable working with databases, APIs, cloud services, identity and access management, logging and data processing workflows.
We are looking for someone who can communicate complex technical and regulatory matters clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences. You will need sound analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to influence without relying on direct authority. Experience with privacy-enhancing technologies, automated compliance controls, data discovery tools or secure software development practices would be advantageous.
This is an opportunity to make a measurable contribution to responsible technology, helping teams deliver innovative services while maintaining trust and protecting people’s information.
