We are seeking a Cloud Security Engineer to support the design, implementation and assurance of secure cloud environments for complex national security programmes in the Manchester area. You will work with multidisciplinary engineering, architecture and delivery teams to embed security throughout the cloud lifecycle, from initial design and migration through to operational support and continuous improvement. The role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects where resilience, confidentiality and compliance are critical.

Your responsibilities will include developing and maintaining secure cloud architectures; implementing identity and access management, network security, encryption, logging and monitoring controls; and identifying, assessing and mitigating vulnerabilities and security risks. You will contribute to security reviews, threat modelling, incident response and the development of technical documentation, standards and operating procedures. You will also help automate security controls and assurance activities using infrastructure-as-code, scripting and CI/CD tooling, while supporting audits and demonstrating compliance with relevant security policies and regulatory requirements.

Applicants should have practical experience securing cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud, together with a solid understanding of cloud-native security principles and shared-responsibility models. Experience with security tooling, DevSecOps, containers, networking, Linux or Windows administration, and infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Terraform will be valuable. Relevant professional certifications or formal training in cloud, cyber security or information assurance are desirable. Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to explain technical risks clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be willing and eligible to obtain and maintain the appropriate UK security clearance.
