We are seeking a Principal Security Architect for a fixed-term contract to provide senior technical leadership across a complex, evolving technology environment. You will define and promote security architecture principles, ensuring that new and existing services are designed, implemented and operated in line with recognised security standards, regulatory obligations and organisational risk appetite. Working closely with technology, engineering, infrastructure, data and business teams, you will translate strategic objectives and business requirements into practical, resilient security solutions.
The role will involve developing and maintaining security architecture frameworks, roadmaps, patterns and standards, as well as assessing proposed changes, platforms and third-party services. You will lead architectural reviews, threat modelling and risk assessments, identify control gaps, and recommend proportionate mitigations. You will also contribute to security strategy, incident preparedness, vulnerability management, identity and access management, cloud security, network protection, application security and data protection. As a trusted adviser, you will explain complex risks clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and influence decisions at senior level.
You will bring substantial experience in security architecture or a closely related discipline, with a strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure, cloud environments, secure software development and modern identity models. Experience of developing security strategies and governing architecture across large, distributed or highly regulated environments is essential. You should be comfortable balancing security, usability, cost and delivery priorities, and be able to work effectively with suppliers and delivery partners. Relevant professional certifications such as CISSP, SABSA, TOGAF, CCSP or equivalent experience would be advantageous. Excellent communication, stakeholder management, analytical and documentation skills are required, together with a pragmatic, collaborative approach and the ability to provide clear direction in a fast-moving environment.
