We are seeking an Assistant Data Protection Officer to support the effective management of data protection, privacy, and information governance activities across the organisation. Working closely with the Data Protection Officer and internal stakeholders, you will help ensure that personal data is handled lawfully, fairly, securely, and transparently in accordance with applicable data protection legislation and internal policies.
Your responsibilities will include assisting with data protection impact assessments, records of processing activities, legitimate interest assessments, privacy notices, data-sharing agreements, and responses to data subject requests. You will help monitor compliance with policies and procedures, maintain accurate documentation, support the review of supplier and processor arrangements, and contribute to the delivery of staff training and awareness initiatives. You will also assist with the investigation and management of personal data breaches, including recording incidents, coordinating actions, and escalating risks where appropriate. Keeping up to date with regulatory developments, guidance, and emerging privacy issues will be an important part of the role.
The successful candidate will have experience or a strong working knowledge of data protection and privacy principles, with an understanding of relevant legislation such as the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, or equivalent frameworks. You should be organised, analytical, and confident handling confidential information with discretion. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, together with the ability to explain complex requirements clearly to colleagues at all levels. Experience of working in an information governance, compliance, legal, risk, or related environment would be advantageous. Relevant professional qualifications or progress towards a recognised data protection certification are desirable, but a willingness to learn and develop will also be valued.
