We are seeking a motivated Junior Cyber Engineer to join a growing technical team and support the protection, monitoring and improvement of critical IT systems. This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their cyber security career to develop practical experience across security operations, vulnerability management and incident response. You will work alongside experienced engineers and analysts, receiving guidance while contributing to projects that strengthen the organisation’s cyber resilience.
Your responsibilities will include monitoring security alerts and system logs, investigating suspicious activity and escalating potential incidents in line with established procedures. You will assist with vulnerability scanning, patch verification, endpoint protection, access reviews and the maintenance of security tools and documentation. The role will also involve supporting security assessments, helping to implement technical controls, contributing to incident investigations and producing clear reports for technical and non-technical colleagues. You will be expected to keep accurate records, follow change and risk management processes, and remain informed about emerging threats, vulnerabilities and industry best practice.
Applicants should have a genuine interest in cyber security and a sound understanding of core concepts such as networking, operating systems, authentication, encryption, firewalls and common attack techniques. Some practical experience through employment, study, placements, home laboratories or recognised certifications would be advantageous. Familiarity with security information and event management tools, vulnerability scanners, scripting or cloud technologies is desirable but not essential. You should be analytical, methodical and curious, with strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues clearly. A willingness to learn, collaborate and work responsibly with sensitive information is essential. This role may require participation in an on-call or out-of-hours support rota following appropriate training.
