We are seeking an experienced Data Protection Officer to lead and strengthen the organisation’s approach to data protection, privacy and information governance. This is a key role responsible for promoting compliance with applicable data protection legislation, advising colleagues on privacy matters and supporting a culture in which personal information is handled securely and responsibly.
You will provide independent advice to senior leaders and teams on data protection obligations, privacy risks and the lawful use of personal data. Your responsibilities will include monitoring compliance, maintaining relevant policies and procedures, advising on data protection impact assessments, supporting records of processing activities and reviewing data-sharing arrangements, contracts and supplier relationships.
You will act as a principal point of contact for data protection enquiries and requests, including individual rights requests, personal data breaches and regulatory correspondence. You will oversee the investigation and reporting of incidents, recommend appropriate remedial action and help ensure that responses are accurate, timely and properly documented. You will also deliver training and awareness activities tailored to different audiences across the organisation.
The successful candidate will have substantial experience in a data protection, privacy, information governance or compliance role, with a strong working knowledge of the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and related guidance. Experience of interpreting legislation, conducting risk assessments and translating complex requirements into practical advice is essential. A relevant professional qualification or accreditation, such as CIPP/E, CIPM or equivalent, would be advantageous.
You will be an excellent communicator with the confidence to influence stakeholders at all levels. Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills are required, together with sound judgement, discretion and attention to detail. Experience of working with information security, audit, records management or governance teams would be beneficial.
This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to privacy standards, improve organisational practice and help build trust in the way personal information is managed. Applications are welcomed from candidates who can demonstrate integrity, independence and a practical, proportionate approach to data protection.
