We are seeking an experienced Data Protection Officer to lead and oversee data protection compliance across the organisation. You will provide expert advice on UK data protection legislation, including the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, ensuring that personal information is handled lawfully, fairly and transparently throughout its lifecycle.

The role will involve maintaining and developing data protection policies, procedures and guidance, monitoring compliance, and advising colleagues on privacy requirements. You will act as the primary point of contact for data protection queries, supporting teams with data protection impact assessments, records of processing activities, legitimate interest assessments, information-sharing arrangements and privacy notices.

You will manage and investigate personal data breaches, assess risks, recommend appropriate remedial action and liaise with relevant stakeholders, including regulatory authorities where necessary. You will also oversee responses to individual rights requests, ensuring that enquiries are handled accurately and within statutory timescales. Regular audits, reviews and reporting will be required, along with the delivery of engaging data protection training and awareness programmes.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience in a data protection, privacy, information governance or compliance role, together with a detailed understanding of the UK GDPR and related legislation. A recognised professional qualification, such as CIPP/E, CIPM, BCS Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection or an equivalent accreditation, would be advantageous.

You will be confident interpreting complex legislation, assessing operational risks and translating technical or legal requirements into clear, practical advice. Strong communication, influencing and organisational skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently while building effective relationships with colleagues at all levels. Experience of handling data breaches, information rights requests, audits and privacy-by-design projects is desirable.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to responsible information management, helping to promote a strong culture of privacy, accountability and continuous improvement. Applicants should demonstrate sound judgement, discretion, attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high professional and ethical standards.
