We are seeking an experienced Data Protection Manager to lead and develop the organisation’s data protection and privacy framework. This role will provide expert guidance on data protection legislation, regulatory expectations and best practice, helping to ensure that personal information is collected, used, stored and shared lawfully, securely and transparently. You will act as a trusted adviser to senior leaders and teams across the business, promoting a strong culture of privacy and accountability.

Key responsibilities will include maintaining and monitoring data protection policies, procedures, records of processing activities and retention schedules; advising on data protection impact assessments, legitimate interests assessments and data-sharing arrangements; and supporting the management of individual rights requests, personal data breaches and regulatory correspondence. You will oversee privacy reviews for new projects, systems and suppliers, ensuring that appropriate controls and contractual safeguards are in place. The role will also involve delivering engaging training and awareness sessions, preparing management information, identifying areas for improvement and coordinating remedial actions following audits or compliance reviews.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience in a data protection, privacy or information governance role, together with a strong understanding of the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018 and related regulatory guidance. A relevant professional qualification or recognised privacy certification would be advantageous. You will be confident interpreting complex requirements, explaining them clearly to varied audiences and balancing legal, operational and commercial considerations. Strong analytical, organisational and stakeholder management skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and maintain confidentiality. Experience of incident management, third-party risk, records management and delivering privacy training would be highly valued.
